The entire sporting world has united to wish one of the bonafide legends of football, Francesco Totti on his 40th birthday. The Roma legend is fresh off scoring his 250th Serie A goal in the Gialloarossi’s disappointing 3-1 loss to Torino, but as he turns 40 tday, legends like Lionel Messi, Usain Bolt, Rafael Nadal and a host of Italian superstars have paid tribute to Il re di Roma.
Despite being 40 years old, Francesco Totti is still going strong, having scored 6 times in his last 11 league games. The Italian great spent the majority of the end of last season bailing out Roma at the end of games, earning a new contract as Luciano Spalletti attempted to phase him out of the team, only for Totti to respond in typical legendary fashion.
Football’s biggest star, Lionel Messi also wished Francesco Totti on his birthday, saying “Hi Francesco, I just wanted to wish you a very happy birthday. "I hope you have a wonderful day. I've always admired you, and even more so on the day I met you. A big hug!”
Usain Bolt spent the day with Totti yesterday, and then wished Totti with a personal video message, saying “Hi Totti, this is Usain Bolt. I just want to wish you a happy birthday, from one legend to another. It was an honour when I met you. Stay up, keep staying strong. I'll be watching, alright. Peace.”
Tennis champion Rafael Nadal also took the time out to wish Totti, saying “Hi Francesco! I wish you a very happy birthday and all the best for this season.”
Italian legends Christian Vieiri, Alessandro del Piero and Andrea Pirlo also wished their former Italian national teammate, with some gentle banter about his age included.
