Top three Premier League matches this weekend

Wigan Athletic v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

Here I have made a list of the top three must see games this weekend along with a couple of honourable mentions..

3. Everton v Tottenham Hotspur (Sunday, 3rd November – 7:00PM IST | ESPN & ESPN HD)

Super Sunday’s first game sees a clash between two sides fighting for a place in the top four go head-to-head against each other at Goodison Park.

Roberto Martinez’s Everton side are in good form since the start of the season and continued it with a 2-0 win at Aston Villa last time out. The new signings have all blended well with the current squad and they will be looking to show their Champions League credentials by beating one of their top four rivals. Tottenham, on the other hand, will be a tough team to beat. Spurs have been solid if not entertaining, but that was expected from them given the number of new signings in the summer.

If anyone is going to get a win at Goodison Park, then Andre Villas-Boas’ men look the most likely candidates to do so at the moment. However, the Toffees are a formidable side at home and haven’t lost a game since December 2012. David Moyes’ Everton side won this fixture in dramatic fashion last season, scoring twice in injury time and winning the game 2-1.

2. Cardiff City v Swansea City (Sunday, 3rd November – 9:30PM IST | ESPN & ESPN HD)

Cardiff City v Charlton Athletic - npower Championship

This rivalry may not be as big as the Manchester United-Liverpool or the north London derby between Arsenal-Tottenham, but it is surely one of the most hotly anticipated game in Premier League history as two sides from south Wales lock horns for the first time ever in the top division of English football.

Cardiff will have the honour of hosting the first ever South Wales derby in the history of the Premier League, which is regarded as one of the most fierce rivalries in Great Britain. A match that supporters of both sides have been looking forward to since the end of the last season. It will be the 106th time these teams have met, and the majority of games between the two have been full of animosity, tension and hatred. The Bluebirds have looked solid, so far, and a win on Sunday will take them above their arch-rivals.

The last time these two sides met was in February 2011, and Dave Jones’ side came out on top with Craig Bellamy scoring the only goal of the game. There is no doubt this one is going to be a thrilling affair and is simply unmissable.

1. Arsenal v Liverpool (Saturday, 2nd November – 11:00PM IST | ESPN & ESPN HD)

Liverpool v Arsenal - Premier League

A top of the table clash between two sides who many people thought were unlikely to challenge for the Premier League title. The Gunners sit at the top of the Premier League, but Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool side are just two points back.

There is no doubt this is the biggest game of the weekend and a massive game for both the sides. Arsenal have been brilliant, so far, but according to some they have had a favourable start to the campaign. Those critics have somewhat been proved right, after successive home defeats to Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund. A win on Saturday will confirm their title credentials, but if they lose their slight concerns could become bigger. On the other hand, the start Liverpool have had and the form they are in have left many claiming they are well in the race for the title. If they can win at the Emirates on Saturday, then they must be considered as genuine title contenders and they have the firepower to do so.

The kind of football both teams are playing, there is no doubt this one is going to be an entertaining game with both sides creating many chances and looking for the win. Last season, this corresponding fixture ended in a 2-2 draw and I won’t be surprised if this game ends with a similar scoreline.
