While the 2011-2012 season has thrown up many club heroes, many are yet to receive their share of limelight. Here are three players whom I have found invaluable to their Clubs.
1. Ashley Williams
The Welsh defender has played every minute of Swansea’s Premier league fixtures this season, notching up one consolation goal against Chelsea and kept nine clean sheets in 25 league games. His disciplinary record is also topnotch, with just two yellow cards in all games. His exploits in the league include Man of the match performances against Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea. The manager has even conceded that he will soon be approached by a Premier league title challenger:
2. Jonathan Walters
Another every-match-starter in the league, Jonathan Walters, is one of Stoke’s key men. Though form has eluded him recently, he has helped Stoke to many a victory against premier league sides, including scoring the solitary goal against Liverpool. He has five goals and five assists in 25 appearances this season, and has impressed with short passes and good vision. Certainly a future Ireland regular first team member for me!
3. Heidar Helguson
Not a regular starter in the league games, but effective when played. One of the best header of the ball in the league, he has eight goals and three assists to his name. Though QPR’s campaign has not been that impressive, Helguson has been outstanding. He also saved QPR’s from the blushes by snatching a late goal in what would be an FA Cup defeat against MK DONS. A player to watch when he returns from his groin injury. He is expected back in action next week .
