The man who made Fernando Torres a revelation in England is all set to offload him from his new club Chelsea. Rafael Benitez, who took charge of Chelsea last week has given the struggling forward a month to prove himself and get back to form. Torres, who was celebrated as one of the best ever strikers during his time at Liverpool, has been labelled a 50 million flop ever since his deadline day move to London. From scorer of great goals to player who missed a chance to score an open goal, nobody expected this transition from Torres, who scored back to back hat tricks at Liverpool.
Benitez has told the media that he has faith in Torres and expects the player to come back to form from his unusual hibernation. But there are wide spread reports that El Nino will soon be shown the door at Chelsea. It is also believed that if Torres leaves, Benitez is ready to fill the gap with relatively unknown Brazilian Taison Barcellos Freda.
Taison (named after Mike Tyson) as he is known, spent his childhood in Porto Alegre and currently plays as a winger for Metalist Kharkiv in the Ukrainian Premier League. He was relatively unknown until he scored a stunner in a Europa League game against Rosenborg three weeks ago. The goal, which was reminiscent of Marco Van Basten’s 1988 volley for Holland against Russia shot the youngster to prominence.
Taison began his career with Internacional in Brazil where he went on to make 136 appearances and score 35 goals. He moved to Metalist Kharkiv in 2010 and has found the back of the net 13 times in 56 games. Although he may not be a like for like replacement for Torres, his combination with Mata, Hazard and fellow Brazilian Oscar would threaten any defence on a given day. Taison is known for his pace and has the ability to play as a target man or in a withdrawn role.
His transfer looks all the more likely as the player himself was in the stands watching the derby match between the Blues and Fulham. Rafa should deal the Torres situation with more patience and try to bring him back to the comfort zone by employing the same tactics that he did at Liverpool which made him a hit among the Kop faithful.
Below is the goal scored by Taison which drew comparisons to that of Van Basten
