Former German international Torsten Frings will have his farewell match on Saturday, September 7 at the Weserstadion, the home of Werder Bremen.
The Torsten Frings farewell game is set to see former team mate and friend Michael Ballack, 1990 FIFA World Cup winning captain Lothar Matthäus, seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher and others in action.
The 36 year old ex-midfielder, who was born in Wuerselen close to Aachen, has played 79 times for Germany and scored 10 goals. He had started his professional career with Alemannia Aachen, before moving on to Werder Bremen in 1997. After five years in Bremen, he moved on to then champions Borussia Dortmund and after only two seasons, he left for German giants FC Bayern Munich. But he could never settle in Bavaria and returned to Werder Bremen, for whom he played from 2005 to 2011 before spending 18 months with Toronto FC in the North American MLS.
“With this game, I want to say goodbye to all the people and thank those who always supported me in my career,” Frings said to Sky Sports News.
At the time of retiring, Frings had said that he would like to become a coach and is set to be assistant coach at Werder Bremen II while he takes his coaching badges.
