Tottenham History
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is a professional football club based in London, England. Tottenham Hotspur plays in the Premier League, the top division of English football and the kit for the club since the 1898-99 season is white shirts and navy blue shorts. The motto of the club is Audere est Facere which means “To dare is to do”.
Tottenham Hotspur was found by the members of Hotspur Cricket Club, led by Bobby Buckle on 5th September 1882 and was previously known as Hotspur F.C. The club was formed so that players could play football when conditions for cricket were not good during the winter. In 1884, they changed their name to Tottenham Hotspur F.C. as there was already a club named London Hotspur F.C.

In 1904, Tottenham became the first non-league club to win the FA Cup. They started in the second division and immediately gained promotion to the first division in the 1908-09 season.

Tottenham Hotspur has played in 4 stadiums since the club’s formation. Spurs initially played at Tottenham Marshes till 1885 before their move to Northumberland Park in 1888. After playing at Northumber land park for few years they soon realized the need for a bigger stadium and therefore In 1899, spurs moved to their most popular stadium, The White Hart Lane.
Tottenham played in White Hart Lane for more than a century and then moved to their new renovated Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019. The stadium has a capacity of 62,062 and is located in Tottenham, London. Tottenham Hotspur stadium is occasionally referred to as New White Hart Lane.
