"Ole's at the wheel, tell me how good does it feel" is what every Manchester United fan was singing after the Spurs game. Manchester United played a little differently and set up a little differently then they did under Ole in other games. It was Martial from the left, Lingard through the middle and Rashford through the right.
Lingard wasn't letting the Spurs centre backs to find the midfielders, while Rashford was looking to play off the shoulder of Vertonghen. The first goal was a proper counter-attacking goal as Pogba got the ball in the middle and played a sumptuous ball to Rashford, he outpaced Vertonghen and finished it brilliantly past Lloris.
In the first half, United were in control but in the second half, it was all about the superhuman that David de Gea has become. Still United got the job done and Ole has passed his first 'real test'.
Here are the player ratings of Manchester United from the Spurs game:
1) David de Gea: 10/10
What can you say about this guy, he is a superhuman. He made 11 saves in the game and kept United in the game. He has been saving United since 2011 now and there is no doubt that he is the best goalkeeper in the world.
2) Ashley Young: 7/10
He was solid defensively and didn't allow many crosses to come from the right side. He kept Son quiet for most of the game and had contributions attacking wise with some good crosses in the box.
3) Victor Lindelof: 7.5/10
Lindelof was the best defender on the pitch for Manchester United. He kept Kane quiet for most of the first half and defended well in the second as Spurs threw everything they had at United.
4) Phil Jones: 6/10
Jones was rusty and lost Kane on many occasions from the corners and crosses that came into the box. He was bailed out many times by his partner Lindelof. Still, Jones stood hard and saw the game through.
5) Luke Shaw: 6.5/10
Shaw was guilty of allowing too many crosses to come into the box from the left in the second half but made an important block of Trippier. He went forward a few times to support Martial but never got a chance to get a cross into the box.
6) Ander Herrera: 7/10
Herrera as always was energetic, made important interceptions and was there to do the dirty work. His tenacity and running off the ball was brilliant and kept Alli quiet for most parts of the game.
7) Nemanja Matic: 6.5/10
Matic was overrun many times by Winks and Eriksen in the second half but was helped by Ander many times. Matic wasn't attacking enough but distributed the ball well whenever he had a chance.
8) Paul Pogba: 8/10
Probably the best of the midfielders for United. The Frenchman stepped up on a big night and it was his brilliant pass that led to the United goal. He was good defensively, especially in the second half but all in all a complete performance from the World Cup winner.
9) Marcus Rashford: 7.5/10
The match winner for the day, Rashford finished off the chance brilliantly and gave United the lead. Rashford's work rate was brilliant as well and he was chasing every ball.
10) Jesse Lingard: 7/10
Jesse started in a role we haven't seen him in that was a false nine. He made the interception that led to the United goal and he also was chasing every ball. He was substituted for Dalot later on.
11) Anthony Martial: 6.5/10
Martial started from the left had a few chances to run at Alderwiereld but he lacked that final touch. He was guilty of allowing Trippier with a lot of space to get the crosses into the box and could have done better with the tracking back.
Substitutes:
1) Romelu Lukaku: 6/10
He came in for Martial and had little of the ball as Spurs had the ball for most of the second half. He did hold the ball very well whenever he got a chance.
2) Diogo Dalot: N/A
Came in very late and didn't have much of an impact.
3) Scott Mctominay: N/A
Came in very late and didn't have much of an impact.
