What's the story?
Harry Kane was involved in a clash with Cesar Azpilicueta in last night's loss to Chelsea. The English Football Association has decided that no further action will be taken against the English striker.
In case you didn't know...
Kane had just returned from injury and yesterday's game was frustrating for all Tottenham players. Chelsea limited Tottenham's attacking chances, and clearly, the England captain was unhappy with his lack of chances.
Had the 25-year-old been found guilty, he would certainly be missing the upcoming North London derby. Mauricio Pochettino will be greatly relieved that he has his main striker eligible to play in the high-octane derby.
The heart of the matter
After the match, Mark Clattenburg said that Kane should have seen red during the match and was lucky to escape any punishment. Now that the striker has been cleared of any offences, it also means that he will not be receiving any ban, which was what fans had expected.
"There looked to be contact but it does not matter how severe the contact was with Azpilicueta. Even if it was an attempted headbutt, that still carries the same punishment – a red card.
"The incident seemed to be missed by the match officials and the FA could now take retrospective action against Kane."
According to the latest update on the matter, the incident between Azpilicueta and Kane was spotted by the match officials. Since it was decided that Kane would not receive any punishment for his actions, the FA has decided to stop pursuing the matter.
What's next?
Harry Kane is likely to start against the Gunners and he has a record of scoring against them.
