Tottenham Hotspur have captured the permanent signing of West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, in what is a wonderful addition to the Spurs squad. This brings to an end the tons of speculation that have been linked with the midfielder’s future who was West Ham United’s best player last season when the Hammers were relegated to the Championship.
30 year old Parker, who won the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award for his performances with West Ham when he emerged as one of the Premier League’s best players despite being at the sinking ship that was West Ham, was destined to move on to another club when the Hammers were doomed to the doldrums of the Championship. With Hammers boss Sam Allardyce having accepted the fact that Parker will move on and the replacement signing arriving in the form of Papa Bouba Diop, the England midfielder handed in a transfer request. Parker had held out for Tottenham despite interest from other clubs such as QPR, Stoke and Aston Villa since he wanted to stay in London. He has got his wish as Spurs have snapped up their man.
The permanent signing of Parker is a brilliant move by Harry Redknapp on Transfer Deadline Day, given that the midfielder is renowned for his excellent energy levels and that is exactly what Tottenham have been lacking so far this season, especially with Luka Modric having had “his head turned” by Chelsea.
