Until the beginning of the transfer window, it seemed that Gareth Bale was going to stay at Totenham for one more season, before moving to newer pastures next season. But the signing of Neymar for Barcelona changed the minds of Real Madrid’s hierarchy.
Sky Sports revealed today that Real Madrid have made a world record bid of £85 million for Welsh flyer Gareth Bale. Other sources also report the same, while adding that Daniel Levy has set a price tag of a whopping 145 million Euros, should Bale move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
It may sound crazy to ask for 145 million Euros for a player who’s just had one very, very good season. But Daniel Levy is a smart negotiator. If he feels the price is right, he’ll let go of the player. If it isn’t obvious to everyone, Real Madrid want to make a marquee signing this summer. Why? Because Barcelona signed Neymar, and they want to outmatch their rival by signing a world class player, and at a very high price. Bale ticks all the boxes for being a Galactico, and the player is reportedly keen on the move as well.
Real Madrid are desperate, very desperate. If you’re a Spurs fan, it’s bad news for you, because Gareth Bale will definitely sign for Real Madrid this summer. Real Madrid will pay vast amounts, not because they need him, because they want to match Barcelona’s capture of Neymar.
Gareth Bale may not be worth even £80 million, and even him winning the PFA Player of the Year is debatable. But what we can take note from this transfer saga is that Madrid are in hot pursuit to land a marquee signing to match their Catalonian rivals, and also flex their muscle in a Europe, where the game’s power is rapidly decentralising (cue the emergence of clubs like Monaco and PSG). Los Blancos merely want to make their statement of intent.
And, when they hone in on their prized asset, shorten their focal length, the old moneys from Madrid usually get him.
In this situation, I assume Daniel Levy knows how desperate Madrid are. Thus, the 145 million price. And mark my words, Real Madrid will stump up the cash to sign him. Maybe not the aforementioned 145 million price tag, but they will go out all guns blazing to make this signing possible.
