The transfer of Matthijs de Ligt to Barcelona is only a matter of time. Ajax have informed the Spanish giants they do not have to pay top price for the 19-year-old defender.📰 • @telegraafpic.twitter.com/lXvhuDSNJr
Barcelona are now closer than ever to securing the signing of Ajax youngster Matthijs De Ligt. Marc Overmars had earlier confirmed that there is an agreement between Barcelona and Ajax to enter into a partnership.
It had been widely reported over the past few days that Barcelona have no rivals in their pursuit to sign the Dutchman. Bayern Munich and Juventus were both credited with an interest in the player but of late, it has cooled down and Barcelona now have a clear path to sign him in the summer.
Reports suggest that Barcelona will need to pay less than what they paid for Frenkie De Jong in order to sign the 19-year-old. It has also been suggested that De Ligt is waiting for the final offers from all parties interested- a species that's taken a great hit in numbers- in order to make his decision final. Otherwise, it's as good as done.
