Barcelona suffer huge blow in pursuit of #1 target
Barcelona are set to miss out on their top summer target, once again, with Chinese Super League outfit Guangzhou Evergrande unwilling to allow midfielder Paulinho to leave the club. According to manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, the club will not allow any potential departure of the former Tottenham Hotspur star as a replacement will be too expensive for the club.
According to new rules imposed by the Chinese Super League, a club is charged 100 percent levy on transfer fees above £5.2m, which will go into youth development. However, there is a £35m release clause in Paulinho's contract and that is the only hope that the Catalan giants have.
Speaking in an interview, as quoted by Marca, Scolari said: "His release clause is 40 m euros and none of the Chinese clubs will let their key players go because it would be difficult and expensive to find a replacement due to the new rules."
Barcelona set to activate buy-back clause of former star
According to Sport, Barcelona are set to activate the buy-back clause of former winger Gerard Deulofeu, who is currently under contract with Everton. The Spaniard has a £10.5m buy-back clause in his contract which will be active until the 30th of June and the Camp Nou outfit are willing to exercise it.
