Alisher Usmanov, who holds a 29.9 percent share in the Arsenal stakes, has expressed his desire to see Wayne Rooney as a part of the Gunners.
While Arsene Wenger has been busy lining up a substantial amount to strengthen his squad this summer, the Manchester United striker has been speculated with a potential move ever since he handed in his transfer request at the end of the season.
Usmanov said: “He is a great player. If he comes it would be a big success for Arsenal and for Rooney also.”
The 59-year-old Russian also came in support of Wenger, who had managed to bring about a strong finish for his team in the 2012/13 campaign even though they ended up in the fourth position.
“My point of view is that Arsene knows best,” said Usmanov.
“Of course, we as shareholders do point out some drawbacks in managing the club, in steering its way through.
“But I believe he is a great coach and he has already proven that last season.”
