Messi has instead suggested the option of signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. Kane could go on to be a long term replacement for the ageing Luis Suarez as well. Tottenham Hotspur have outdone themselves by reaching the Champions League final but their domestic woes continue to be a source of concern.
As such, if they win the Champions League this season, Kane will seriously consider moving away from the club. Real Madrid have also been heavily linked with Kane. But now that Messi has advocated for his signing, Barcelona are expected to make a bid for the England international.
