Cesar Azpilicueta signs new Chelsea deal
Cesar Azpilicueta had been linked with multiple clubs as he approached the end of his contract at Chelsea. Notably, AC Milan were keen on signing him. However, the 29-year-old has now put those rumours to rest, signing a new four-year contract that will see him remain at the club until 2022. The new contract will reportedly see the Spaniard earn £150,000-a-week.
The club's official website confirmed the signing with a quote from the player himself:
"I am really happy to extend my stay here at Chelsea. Since I came, I felt the joy and responsibility to play for this club, these fans, and every time I go on the pitch I try [to] do my best. Hopefully, there is a lot to come and we can keep Chelsea where it belongs."
Chelsea's Club director, Marina Granovskaia, also weighed in with his opinion after the signing, saying:
"Cesar is one of our longest-serving players and has proven to be a fantastic acquisition over the past six years. His professionalism and consistency in that time have been second to none and he has also developed into one of the squad’s most influential players"
The new contract will see Azpilicueta complete 10 full seasons at Chelsea.
