Chelsea are ready to bid for Borussia Dortmund star striker Robert Lewandowski if the final bid of £40m for Wayne Rooney is rejected, according to the Mirror.
After Rooney handed over a transfer request during Sir Alex Ferguson’s time at Manchester United, Chelsea have been crazy about him. They have already seen a £22 million bid rejected by United last month but are willing to bid more than that for him to move to Stamford Bridge.
The Mirror also claimed that Jose Mourinho has talked to his boss Roman Abramovich and Chelsea are willing to offer Rooney a 4-year contract.
Rooney still has another 2 years at Manchester United and he is not likely to sign a contract extension with Manchester United as he is being kept at United against his will. So it is good for United to cash in on him because his value would decrease in the coming years.
It is not too wise to sell him to a rival team considering United’s rivalry with Chelsea. So, it is a very tricky situation for David Moyes.
If United refuse to sell Rooney, Jose Mourinho is ready to turn his attention towards Poland International Robert Lewandowski. The 24 year old striker is furious as he was kept at Dortmund against his wishes.
It is wise for Dortmund to sell Lewandowski to a foreign club as they already know that he won’t sign an extension with Dortmund next year. Even though Lewandowski has set his heart on Bayern Munich, he may be tempted to make a move to Stamford Bridge if he is offered a bumper contract.
After Chelsea’s smashing of Hull City on Sunday, Mourinho confirmed that he is planning to bring a striker to Chelsea but refused to name them.
“But in this moment, every striker has a club. Every striker belongs to somebody. And I don’t think it’s ethical I name players who belong to other clubs.
“If we have to make a bid, we make it in an official way. We don’t speak to players, but to clubs.
“We don’t try to influence players to behave in a certain way, as other clubs do. We behave in the correct manner and we’ll try for that until the last day of the transfer window.” Mourinho’s quoted as saying in the Mirror.
