Radamel Falcao will become Manchester City’s first signing post the Mancini era, after the Etihad club agreed a British record transfer fee for the Atletico Madrid hit man, Sunday People reported.

The Columbian’s £54 million buy-out clause has been met by City, who are looking to snatch the striker from Chelsea‘s grasp.

Falcao has been one of Europe’s hottest properties, and a move to City will certainly add teeth to City’s attack.

Mourinho and Falcao share an agent, Jorge Mendes, and the Special One was hoping Falcao would join him at Chelsea. However, the player is said to prefer City rather than go head-to-head with Torres.

Chilean Manuel Pellegrini is the hot favourite to take over at City, and Falcao has hinted of his desire to play under the Chilean rather than Mourinho.

Falcao’s transfer fee will surpass the £50m that Chelsea paid Liverpool to land Torres in 2011.

Falcao’s arrival may trigger the release of Argentinian Carlos Tevez, who has attracted offers from big clubs including PSG and Monaco.
