It has been a transfer window of big money signings and salaries. Many clubs have rejuvenated their squads across Europe, while some have stayed surprisingly silent. The top clubs of Europe have been busy throughout the summer with solid signings. We rate the transfer window for the top clubs around Europe in this article.

1.Manchester City

Jack Rodwell has been Man City’s only summer signing so far

The Premier League champions have had a frustrating transfer window so far. Roberto Mancini has said that the next week will determine the success of Manchester City’s season. They failed in their bids to sign Eden Hazard , Robin Van Persie and Thiago Silva. Moreover Roberto Mancini signed Jack Rodwell, a bright star for the future, but relatively unnecessary. Manchester City’s squad does still seem strong and Carlos Tevez has played like a new signing. While the sale of Adebayor was a success, Adam Johnson’s transfer has raised doubts especially since Manchester City have started playing with wingers.

Manchester United have spent heavily this summer after losing the title to Manchester City last season. Robin Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa were high profile signings who have already made a positive start. Manchester United transfer tussle loss to Chelsea and PSG respectively over Eden Hazard and Lucas Moura should be the only disappointment so far in this transfer window. Manchester United’s squad looks strong for England and Europe.

Eden Hazard has already proven he is a gifted star

The European champions have been asserting their dominance in the transfer market. Roberto Di Matteo has signed all the players he desired for and has made his side a formidable side. Eden Hazard has already shown his talent in the Premier League, The signings of Cesar Azpilicueta, Marko Marin, Victor Moses and Oscar promise a bright future for Chelsea. Chelsea have spent heavily this summer and will hope to see the new signings click instantly. Chelsea released dead wood players like Salomon Kalou and Jose Bosingwa. The only drawback was Didier Drogba’s departure.

Will Arsenal’s new signings help end the trophy drought?

Arsenal have had a mixed transfer season. While Arsenal were prepared for the inevitable loss of Robin Van Persie by signing quality attacking players like Lukas Podolski, Oliver Giroud and Santi Cazorla, the loss of Alex Song has left Arsene Wenger without a solid defensive midfielder. Add Jack Wilshere’s injury problems into the mix and you have Arsenal in disarray. Arsenal also failed to sign Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid. Clearly Arsenal are heading into a very busy last week of the summer transfer window.

Joe Allen will be the key element in Liverpool’s new philosophy

Liverpool have had a satisfying transfer window with the signings of Joe Allen and Nuri Sahin. Brendan Rodgers is trying to infuse his possession revolved system into Liverpool and Joe Allen and Sahin fit into the mix. Fabio Borini has been roped in to be the natural goalscorer. The loss of Dirk Kuyt is a disappointment.

6. Tottenham Hotspur:

Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson will play a key role in Tottenham’s fight for Europe

Total money recuperated : 63.1 million Euros

Tottenham Hotspur reinforced their attacking system with the signings of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Emmanuel Adebayor. Ledley King’s retirement was followed up by Jan Vertonghen’s signing. Tottenham have however failed to add a goalkeeper in their ranks considering Brad Friedel’s approaching retirement. The loss of Luka Modric is the biggest disappointment for Andres Villas Boas.
