According to various reports, Robin van Persie went into the Arsenal dressing room post the Gunners 1-0 loss at Old Trafford to congratulate them on their fine start to the season.

The former Arsenal striker scored the only goal in Sunday’s game, hereby dampening Arsenal’s title hopes, who are still top of the Premier League.

Van Persie caused controversy by celebrating the goal with many critics insisting that he showed a lack of respect for the team he spent seven years playing for.

Reports suggest that Van Persie was inspired to celebrate his headed goal after a series of vile chants rang out from the away section at Old Trafford.

Van Persie had previously stated that he did not plan to ever celebrate a goal against the Gunners, but the abuse coming from the travelling fans convinced him otherwise.
