Eastern European minnows Georgia are all set to make their Euro debut on Tuesday against Turkey at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund as the sides face off in Group F of the championship.

Demonstrating tremendous fighting spirit, Georgia finished in fourth place in Group A of the qualifiers, but progressed on account of their performance in the UEFA Nations League.

After seeing off Luxembourg in the semi-finals of the playoffs, the Crusaders held Euro 2004 champions Greece to a 0-0 draw in the finals, before prevailing 4-2 on penalties to mark a historic qualification.

Ranked 75th in the world, Willy Sagnol's side then prepared for the tournament with a 3-1 defeat of Montenegro in a friendly game last week as Georgia look to make a mark at the showpiece in Germany.

Turkey flattered to deceive at the last edition of the European Championship by losing all three of their group fixtures to bow out in the first round on a whimper.

However, their determination to make amends was seen in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, wherein they won their group ahead of Croatia and Wales. Turkey accumulated 17 points from eight games and lost just once.

Vincenzo Montella's side were rewarded for their efforts with another tough group, featuring Euro 2016 winners Portugal, and Euro 2020 quarter-finalists the Czech Republic.

Turkey vs Georgia Head-To-Head stats

Interestingly, there have been only five official encounters between the sides in the past, with Turkey winning on three occasions and losing to Georgia just once.

That defeat for the Crescent-Stars came in February 2007, when the Crusaders beat them 1-0 in a friendly game courtesy of a 76th-minute goal from David Siradze.

Turkey and Georgia are meeting for the first time since May 2012, when the former won 3-1 in a friendly game at Salzburg.

Turkey vs Georgia: Numbers you need to know before their UEFA Euro 2024 encounter

Turkey are taking part in their sixth European Championship, although this is the first time they have qualified for the tournament in three consecutive editions. Their best result in the competition was a semi-final finish in 2008.

This will be Georgia's first-ever game at a major international tournament. Since 2012, only three of the eight nations who made their debut in the Euros have won their first match: Ukraine beating Sweden in 2012, Wales defeating Slovakia in 2016, and Finland overcoming Denmark in 2020.

Turkey have lost six of their last seven matches at the European Championship, while keeping just one clean sheet in their last 12 matches at the tournament. That resulted in a 2-0 win for them over the Czechs in Euro 2016.
