Arsenal finally claimed a win over a league opposition for the first time since 28th January – when they won 5-0 away to Southampton in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Gunners recorded a 2-1 win over relegation-threatened Middlesbrough to keep their slim hopes for a top 4 finish alive and the victory brought an end to 5 consecutive away defeats for Arsene Wenger’s side against top-flight oppositions.
Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring with an excellent free-kick before Alvaro Negredo equalised for the goal-shy outfit. The Emirates stadium outfit were staring at another draw when Mesut Ozil stepped up and buried a right-footed effort past a diving Brad Guzan. The win helped the Gunners climb to 6th position in the league table, while it almost sealed the fate of the Riverside outfit.

However, the most unique trait of Arsenal’s game was their formation with manager Arsene Wenger deploying 3 at the back for the first time since May 1997, almost 20 years since he last used it.
