Arsenal recorded a 2-0 win over bitter rivals Manchester United to keep their slim hopes of a top-four finish alive. The Gunners took the lead through Granit Xhaka’s strike from 35 yards in the 54th minute, which took a wicked deflection off the back of Ander Herrera to loop over David De Gea into the top corner.
Former Manchester United striker, Danny Welbeck, doubled his side’s lead less than 4 minutes later as he thumped home a header from an Oxlade-Chamberlain cross. The win marked Arsene Wenger’s first victory over nemesis Jose Mourinho in a ‘competitive’ game, given that he has only ever beaten the Portuguese in the Community Shield prior to today’s game.
