Arsenal laboured to a 2-0 win over already relegated Sunderland to keep their hopes of a top 4 finish alive. The Gunners dominated the game from start to end but were met with a wall in Jordan Pickford, who produced a display of the highest quality, producing 11 saves during the game.

Arsene Wenger’s side now go into the final game of the season, only one point behind 4th placed Liverpool and need to win their game, while hoping that the Reds lose against Middlesbrough to qualify for next season’s Champions League. There is also a scenario in which there will be a first-ever playoff game between the two sides for a berth in the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal created a host of chances during the game but had to wait until the 72nd minute when Alexis Sanchez tapped into the net from a delightful Mesut Ozil cross. The Gunners soon doubled their lead through the Chilean who headed home Olivier Giroud’s overhead flick. However, despite the goal-scoring exploits of Alexis, it was Ozil who stole the show as he created 12 chances during the game – the most chances that any player has created in the Premier League since records began.

Twitter, as you would expect, went wild and here are the best tweets:
