Vincent Kompany finds himself at the wrong end of accusations of “manhandling” the referee

Manchester City were the latest victims of Crystal Palace’s growing record of derailing title challenges. They succumbed 2-1 to the Eagles, despite rallying for periods and showing signs of life. There were several talking points in the scintillating game including a potential penalty for Manchester City when the ball struck Glenn Murray’s arm.

However, folks on Twitter have lambasted Kompany for “manhandling” match referee Michael Oliver in the aftermath of Crystal Palace’s first goal. Presumably, Kompany was debating a probable offside in the build-up to the goal.

Several Twitter users compared Kompany’s actions to Angel Di Maria’s tug on referee Michael Oliver’s shirt in an earlier FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal. Their outrage was based on the fact that Di Maria was sent off for his offense, but no action was taken against Kompany.

While the situation with Kompany’s actions remains ambiguous, there is no uncertainty in the task that remains for Manchester City if they are to rescue their season.
