Juventus and Portugal talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, was honoured with best player of the year at the 2018 Globe Soccer Awards.
The 10th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards was held at the Madinat Jumeirah resort in Dubai on Thursday. France duo, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo were nominated for the award in the best player category.
The 33-year-old forward had a fantastic year, helping Real Madrid win a third consecutive Champions League title. The Juventus star has now won the prestigious award for three straight years, and a total of five times since 2011.
Along with the best player award, the Portuguese legend was also given 'the best goal award' for a breathtaking overhead strike against his current club, Juventus. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner also received the Fans' Award at the ceremony in the United Arab Emirates.
"The year has started very well with this fantastic award, and with this beautiful goal that I, unfortunately, scored against my current team, so I'm not totally happy (smiles),” Ronaldo said upon receiving his award.
"I thank the fans who voted for me, the goal is to keep scoring. I've scored almost 700 goals in my career, and this is more beautiful than I first thought.”
Ronaldo missed out on a 6th Ballon d'Or trophy to Croatian counterpart, Luka Modric, back in December. Ronaldo signed for Juventus after 9 successful years at Real Madrid where he won two LaLiga titles and 4 Champions League trophies.
Atletico Madrid and Didier Deschamps were awarded the Best Club of the year, and Best Coach respectively
The forward will be looking to win the best trophy in club football with Juventus this season. The Bianconeri have been touted as the favourites to win the Champions League after the 33-year-old forward signed for the Serie A leaders.
