Wednesday saw defending champions Juventus crash out of the Coppa Italia after suffering a shock 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the quarter-finals.
Timothy Castagne and Duvan Zapata both found the net for the under-dogs to register a thumping win over a Bianconeri side full of big game players. Atalanta had previously endured a 2-2 draw with the Serie A table-toppers in December and managed to surprise everyone once again.
Despite the strong line-up, the Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. failed to register a single shot on target in the first half, making it the first time they couldn't find the target in the first half in two consecutive games since March 2018.
Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri was also sent off after he threw his jacket on the pitch in a fit of rage following the second goal.
Speaking of the decision, the manager said (via ESPN), "It was right to send me off, I was losing my temper and the refereeing was impeccable during the whole match."
He added, "Compliments to the referee. At that moment I paid for my anger. The lads are feeling low, but now we'll grit our teeth. These matches can happen. There's nothing to blame the guys for, especially given what they've done up until now."
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini, meanwhile, was elated at the incredible win saying, "We met Juve quite a few times and only ever got draws, so it was tough to even hope for a 3-0 result. It's immensely satisfying, as doing this against Juventus gives it even more significance."
"I could not have asked for more and I don't just mean the result, but also the passion, the style of football, the quality. People think Atalanta just run hard and that's it, but there's more to it."
