Football fans were treated to yet another Champions League masterclass as Lionel Messi provided two goals and two assists against Lyon to take Barcelona to the quarterfinals of Europe's elite competition.
Besides Messi, goals from Philippe Coutinho, Gerard Pique, and Ousmane Dembele succumbed the French outfit to a 5-1 defeat, ending their journey in the competition this season.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo single-handedly fired Juventus to the next stage of the Champions League after scoring the eighth Champions League hat-trick of his career on Tuesday night.
Speaking after the game, an elated Messi addressed the much-awaited draw telling Movistar + (via Goal),
"All rivals are difficult, we can't choose. We have to wait for the draw and see who will be our rival."
"City, Juventus, Ajax, all are really good. Liverpool have offensive success and they showed at Munich. All of them will be complicated."
The Argentine also heaped praise on Ronaldo's performance against Atletico Madrid telling:
"Cristiano and Juventus were awesome. It was a big surprise because I thought Atletico would be stronger. But Juventus overcame them and Cristiano had a magical night with three goals."
In the absence of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid, the Catalan giants are hoping to hit a treble this season with the Copa del Rey and La Liga in their favor.
The Blaugrana recently defeated Real Madrid to progress to the finals of the Copa del Rey and they also sit at the top of the Spanish league table.
The win over Lyon not only sees Messi equaling Xavi Hernandez's record to become the player with the joint-most wins for Barcelona but also means that the Argentine is the first player to score two goals and register two assists in a single Champions League game this season.
