The Citizens started the match as the favorites and they came up as the winners of the Carabao Cup 2018-19. After the battle of 120 minutes was over, Manchester City sealed their win on penalties.
City and Chelsea both started the game well. Maurizio Sarri launched a different line-up against Manchester City with different tactics where Emerson started as the left-back and Eden Hazard in the false position. Willian and Pedro both started as the two wingers for the Blues.
On the other hand, Man City maintained its balanced line-up as all highly-rated players like Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, David Silva, and Kevin De Bruyne started for the Citizens.
In the first half, Chelsea played a decent game, but it Was Man City who showed their domination over the ball possession. Players like De Bruyne and David Silva continued to produce the magical passes for the Citizen forwards, but the final touch was the only reason why Pep Guardiola's team failed to score a single goal in the first half. Chelsea created a few good chances, but they also failed to open the scoreline.
In the second half, Chelsea started to attack as Manchester City felt the pressure on their back. Chelsea missed a few good chances from the set pieces. At the ending moment of the second half, Chelsea's superstar Eden Hazard found a great ball from Ruben Loftus-Cheek which was called offside by the officials. It seemed like one of the big mistakes made by the officials at Wembley. At last, the second half also ended with a 0-0 scoreline. The game went into the extra time.
There was nothing special about the first half of the extra time as both teams played defensively. Raheem Sterling found a brilliant run from the left-hand side of Chelsea's defense and just as he was about to finish the game for the Blues, César Azpilicueta came to the rescue for the London club.
Sergio Aguero also found a golden chance in the second half of the extra time when Kepa's tremendous save helped Chelsea to stay in the game.
Another dramatic thing happened at Wembley as Chelsea's goalkeeper Kepa denied his manager decision of substituting him off the field at the closing minutes of the match following some injury issues. Sarri looked desperate with the decision of Kepa as his anger was clearly spotted in the Blues' dugout.
In the penalty shoot-out, Raheem Sterling was the man who sealed the Carabao Cup 2018-19 for Manchester City.
