U.S.A. women’s soccer team goalkeeper Hope Solo was arrested this Sunday morning for allegedly assaulting her sister and 17-year-old nephew, CNN has confirmed.
The police were said to have reported to the scene just before 1 a.m. after a call from 911 with complaints of loud noises and acts of violence at Solo’s house in Kirkland.
Solo, aged 32, was found intoxicated, alongside her injured sister and nephew, and was later taken into custody after she was determined as the prime assaulter, and has been charged with two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault.
The Seattle Reign FC goalie will now remain in custody until her court appearance in the Kirkland Municipal Court on Monday.
The club took to Twitter to comment on the situation:
“Hope is not guilty of any crime,” Solo’s attorney Todd Maybrown was quoted by the Star with an email he had sent to the Associated Press. “In fact, our investigation reveals that Hope was assaulted and injured during this unfortunate incident. We look forward to the opportunity to present the true facts in court and to having this matter behind Hope very soon.”
After she was reached for comments, Solo soon denied any such assault incident to have happened. She said, "It's unfortunate what the media can do to judge before the facts are out there. It's hard to see, but it's a hard truth, and it's part of life," she said then. "I'm happy. I'm happily married. I would never stand for domestic violence. I've never been hit in my life."
