Udinese boss Francesco Guidolin has set his sights on the Italian national team’s managerial post, Football Italia reports.
Guidolin’s future remains in doubt after the coach chose to remain mum about his future after 2014 World Cup.
“Reading my name among the possible candidates makes me very proud. I’d like to lead the Nazionale,” the 57-year-old told Radio Deejay.
“Being Italy Coach would also give me more time to recover from the stress. It would be a boost to my health as well as great work.
“I do like the day-to-day work at club level, but I’ve been doing this for 40 years, so a new experience would be welcome.”
Udinese have had an outstanding performance in Serie A but have failed to enter the Champions League and Europa League this year.
“We made life difficult for ourselves, but a performance like that comes around only once in 10 attempts.”
Guidolin faces competition for the Italian national team job in the form of AC Milan’s Massimiliano Allegri, Antonio Conte of Juventus, Ex-Inter manager Roberto Mancini, Zenit manager Luciano Spalletti, and Russia boss Fabio Capello.
