Benfica have made a name for themselves as being not just one of the best talent production hub in Portugal, but one of the very best in the world.

A line that produced Rui Costa in the past and more recent graduates like Bernardo Silva, Nelson Semedo and Joao Felix has Nuno Tavares as the youngster with big things expected of him.

The 19-year-old plays predominantly as a left-back, but his offensive capabilities means that he can be deployed further up the field as a left winger, or left-wing back, while his versatility sees him currently being played as a right-back.

After starring with the Benfica B side in the Portuguese LigaPro (the second division) last season, he was promoted to the senior squad at the start of the current campaign and started at left-back in the 5-0 Super Cup victory over city rivals Sporting Lisbon.

Tavares' league debut came in the first game of the season, and Tavares starred in another 5-0 victory, opening the scoring with a spectacular long-range screamer, while also assisting twice.

With former La Masia star Alex Grimaldo occupying his preferred left-back role, Tavares has been played in the more unfamiliar right-back position, but he has been unfazed and has discharged his duties remarkably, starting all three of Benfica's Primeira Liga matches till date.
