UEFA Champions League highlights: Real Madrid 1-0 Liverpool - Benzema secures qualification to Round-of-16

Real Madrid earned a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in their group stage tie on Tuesday night and secured qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Karim Benzema scored the only goal of the night after he met Marcelo’s cross which was driven into the 18-yard-area by the Brazilian full-back. Real created a lot of chances from then on, but failed to capitalise and increase their lead. Despite that, Carlo Ancelotti’s team kept a clean sheet and saw out a narrow victory in the end.

Liverpool came into this match clearly as the underdogs and were expected to be defeated by a big margin especially after the 3-0 loss at their own backyard in Anfield. But the Reds had a better outing in the home of the defending champions with goalkeeper Mignolet denying Ronaldo and co on numerous occasions.
