Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid - UEFA Super Cup
Atletico Madrid sent a clear statement of intent to the European Giants and they are serious contenders for the Champions League this season.

Jan Oblak

Oblak made an excellent reflex save to deny Asensio's back-heel flick. But he was caught in doubt by Bale's cross that made him move neither forward nor backward, eventually conceding an equalizer.

Rating - 6

Juanfran

His hard work earned an equalizer in the second half, and he was the provider for Diego Costa's opening goal. But he cost his team with a penalty that almost killed their hopes.

Rating - 6

Stefan Savic

He was accountable for Benzema's header, who failed to deal with it. Other than that, he had a decent game.

Rating - 6

Diego Godin

Godin got the captain's armband and led the team from the back. He hardly put a foot wrong dealing with Real Madrid's attack, making some good interceptions and clearances.

Rating - 8

Lucas Hernandez

He was industrious but couldn't compete with Bale for Real's first goal. He offered little going forward but it wasn't exactly a bad performance from him.

Rating - 6

Thomas Lemar

He seems like a very good buy for Atletico. He did everything the manager asked, worked hard to move forward with the ball quickly when there was a chance, and tracked back to help the defenders when they were out of possession.

Rating - 8

Saul

He left Real Madrid at the age of 14 and yesterday he showed them what they missed, scoring a splendid left-foot volley that curled away from Keylor Navas into the back of the net. That goal was worthy of a match-winner in any game.

Rating - 8

Rodri

It was a good debut for the youngster who looked like a perfect replacement for Gabi. He offered a lot to his team with his fine interceptions and shielding of the defense.

Rating - 7.5

Koke

He mastered the center of the pitch by controlling the game, and also scored a goal with controlled finishing. A truly top-class performance.

Rating - 8

Antoine Griezmann

Griezmann is yet to find his rhythm, which is understandable as he joined the squad after the World Cup. He was withdrawn in under an hour.

Rating - 5

Diego Costa

Costa was the hero of the game. It was a complete performance and he was involved in almost every goal. The first goal was awesome as he went past two of the best defenders around Ramos and Varane with ease, while the second one ensured Atletico would send the match into extra time.

Rating - 9

Substitutes

Angel Correa (for Griezmann on 57')

A game-changing introduction created Costa's second goal. Correa gave all sorts of trouble to Real Madrid.

Rating - 8.5

Vitolo (for Rodri on 71')

Vitolo assisted Koke for Atleti's fourth goal of the night.

Rating - 6.5

Thomas Partey (for Lemar on 90+1')

A great substitution, Partey's fine work earned Atletico Madrid the lead in extra time. He also had a chance to score later on but missed as he failed to beat his own footing.

Rating - 7

Jose Gimenez (for Costa on 109')

N/A - too late to mark.
