UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino has called for the FIFA presidential election to be postponed till the corruption charges have been investigated completely. The decision was made in Warsaw where the top UEFA officials had gone to witness the Europa league final between Sevilla and Dnipro.
According to reports, UEFA officials spent the entire day analyzing whether Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein of Jordan(Sepp Blatter’s competition) could secure enough votes to win the presidency. However, it seems that they feel Blatter is assured another four years as the President of football’s governing body.

In a statement issued by UEFA, they made it clear that they would like the elections to be postponed for the protection of the game. In the statement UEFA said, “The UEFA member associations are meeting tomorrow ahead of the FIFA Congress. At that point, the European associations will decide on what further steps need to be taken to protect the game of football.
“In the meantime, the members of the UEFA Executive Committee are convinced that there is a strong need for a change to the leadership of this FIFA and strongly believe that the FIFA Congress should be postponed, with new FIFA presidential elections to be organised within the next six months.”
Sepp Blatter released a statement in which he supported the arrests and promised FIFA’s full support towards the investigation.
“We will continue to work with the relevant authorities and we will work vigorously within FIFA in order to root out any misconduct, to regain your trust and ensure that football worldwide is free from wrongdoing.”
