England:
Joe Hart – He was lucky not to have given away a penalty after a rash tackle early in the game, but didn’t do much wrong for the rest of the 90 minutes aside from one episode of hand-flapping.
Rating: 5.5/10
Kyle Walker – The Spurs full-back couldn’t contribute much in attack and was led a merry dance by Konoplyanka for most of the match. All in all, it was a night to forget for him.
Rating: 4/10
Gary Cahill – The Chelsea man was one of England’s best players on the night, putting in vital blocks and clearing the ball away from the danger area on many occasions. His defensive work ensured England didn’t concede.
Rating: 7/10
Phil Jagielka – He didn’t do much of note as it was Cahill who did most of the dirty work, but he kept things simple and ably supported his partner whenever he could. Remained solid for most of the game.
Rating: 6/10
Ashley Cole – Wasn’t his usual assured self for most of the game. The veteran left-back lost possession more than a few times and made a few basic defensive errors, although none put the team in any real danger.
Rating: 5/10
Frank Lampard – Won his 100th cap for England on the night. Didn’t make any mistakes in midfield but didn’t do as much to contribute to England’s attacking play as he would have liked.
Rating: 5.5/10
Steven Gerrard - The England skipper looked his usual calm self in the middle of the park but, like Lampard, couldn’t do much to contribute to England’s attacking play.
Rating: 5.5/10
Jack Wilshere - The youngster looked energetic but failed to influence the game in any way. His passing appeared slightly off the mark too and he was hauled off in the second half.
Rating: 4.5/10
Theo Walcott – Looked lively in the opening minutes of the game but couldn’t do much to unlock a tight Ukraine defence. His lack of a proper end product was evident throughout the match.
Rating: 5/10
James Milner – As he almost always does, Milner put in a decent shift down the left wing. However, his lack of creative play was evident throughout the match.
Rating: 5.5/10
Rickie Lambert – Held the ball up well at times but his link-up play was absolutely poor. He had no service to work with throughout the game and often cut a lonesome figure up front.
Rating: 5/10
