US football national team has topped rivals Mexico in the monthly FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) world rankings.
Mexico was ranked 20th with 819 points in FIFA’s ranking, while the US, who won the CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) Gold Cup in July, ended in position 19 with 960 points, according to the rankings released Thursday, reports Xinhua.
Mexico failed to impress in the summer competitions. They were eliminated in the first round of 2013 Copa Confederaciones and could not repeat their victory in Gold Cup.
Panama, who eliminated Mexico from the semifinal of the regional tournament, climbed 11 positions to the 40th place.
For July’s ranking, FIFA considered the results of Gold Cup’s 22 games and worldwide friendly matches.
World champions, Spain, stay on top with 1,484 points, followed by Germany and Colombia.
