Olympic champion and the fastest man in the world, Usian Bolt, has lauded Real Madrid footballer Gareth Bale’s goal against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final against FC Barcelona calling it a goal any sprinter would be proud of scoring.
As the Copa del Rey final entered its final moments, Bale picked up a pass from left-back Fabio Coentrao, took a touch past Barcelona defender Marc Bartra and sprinted around him for close to 50 metres before finishing past keeper Pinto to score a memorable winner for Real Madrid.
“It was a great goal,” the Jamaican was quoted as saying in Spanish sports daily Marca on Friday.
“He showed the fantastic speed he has to leave the defender behind and then incredible calm to put the ball between the keeper’s legs,” added the keen Manchester United supporter who retained the 100 and 200 metre titles at the London Games in 2012.
“It seems his past as an athlete [in Cardiff Institute] helped him in this move. It’s the kind of goal any sprinter in the world would want to score one day,” Bolt said.
