Fresh off the back of a gut-wrenching defeat in the UEFA Champions League, Girona visit the Mestalla to face Valencia in round six of La Liga on Saturday. Ruben Baraja’s men will head into the weekend looking to get one over the visitors, having lost both home and away meetings between the teams last season.
Valencia continue to struggle for results in the new La Liga campaign as they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid at the Cívitas Metropolitano last weekend.
Baraja’s side have failed to win their five matches this season, picking up just one point from a possible 15 to sit rooted to the bottom of the table.
Valencia’s poor start to the season has been owing to their defensive frailty as they have conceded 10 goals already — only Real Valladolid (13) have shipped more.
Girona, meanwhile, were left heartbroken in their Champions League opener on Tuesday as they fell to a 1-0 loss against French champions Paris Saint-Germain after conceding the only goal of the game in the 90th minute.
This followed a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Barcelona on September 15 which saw their run of two back-to-back La Liga wins come to an end.
Michel’s men have picked up seven points from their five league games so far to sit 11th in the table but could move into fifth place with all three points this weekend.
