When asked about Ryan Giggs on MUTV, Louis van Gaal said, “I expect that he [Giggs] will be the next manager after I am gone.” The Dutch manager is only in his first season at Manchester United with a contract that should keep him at the club till 2017.
The 63-year-old also added, “Now I have the responsibility. He [Giggs] has tasks that he has to perform like the players. What he has to do, for me, he does it very well.”
The Welshman who is now 41 years old on taking charge after David Moyes was sacked last season said it was the “proudest” moment of his career. He took on the assistant manager role once Louis van Gaal began his term as manager at the beginning of the season having retired from his playing career.
David De Gea’s contract offer
The Manchester United boss speaking regarding his goalkeeper David De Gea’s contract extension talks said that the Spanish national has been offered “a lot of money” to stay at Old Trafford.
De Gea who won the club’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award in 2014 has had yet another outstanding season in goal for the Red Devils. His sublime form has given way to rumours linking him with a move away from United with reportedly a number of suitors lining up, led by none other than Spanish giants Real Madrid.
When asked about the progress in any negotiations, Van Gaal said, "It takes a long time now".
"It can always happen. I am not the boss. I want him to stay. The player is the boss - he can say 'yes' or 'no'.
"He has to sign. We have offered him a lot of money."
