Argentina and Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria is being lined up as the next main summer target by Louis van Gaal, as the new Manchester United manager looks to bolster his front line.
Van Gaal, who is currently with the Netherlands for the World Cup, has been impressed by Di Maria both during the domestic season and the World Cup and theGuardian report that he wants United to bring the player to Old Trafford.
Di Maria, whose Argentina side play the Netherlands on Wednesday in the second semi-final, came close to leaving Real Madrid before but he is seen as an important player for the side and any prospective suitor would have to pay at least £40 million.
His future may become a bit clearer if Real Madrid firm up their interest in Monaco’s James Rodriguez who has a good shout for being player of the tournament at the World Cup despite Colombia’s quarter final exit.
Aside from Di Maria the report also suggests that United are still keen on bringing Mats Hummels to the club, as they believe that the player would be open to a move should they agree on a price with Borussia Dortmund.
The fee could be between £25-30 million which is a lot for a defender but Hummels’ performances in the World Cup so far have shown that he is one of the best in the world in his position.
