Robin van Persie is just the latest in a long line of admirers of Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj, comparing the youngster to himself at that age.
The headlines started coming after Januzaj put in a match-winning display against Sunderland earlier this season, scoring two goals that saw Manchester United come from behind to beat Sunderland. His complex international status prompted national governing bodies to unceremoniasly scramble for his services.
His form has continued and he looks way ahead of his years as he now features on a regular basis for the Red Devils. In a recent interview the Netherlands all-time leading scorer and club team-mate, Van Persie, saluted the youngsters displays and has given a glowing reflection of Januzaj’s ability.
“He’s a great player and I’m a great fan of his,” the Dutchman told the Mirror. “I thought earlier in pre-season that he had something special.
“Over the years I’ve seen so many young players and I can honestly say that of all the young players I’ve seen he is right up there in the top one or two. He’s a special player.”
He went on to state that he believes the 18-year old, who was born in Belgium but can play for Albania and Kosovo as well, reminds him of a himself as a young player.
“When I go back 10 years, when I was quite young, I see similar attributes,” Van Persie continued.
“I was very confident as well and I see some stuff in him and the choices he makes that I made when I was younger as well.
“But he’s not the new Van Persie, he’s the new Adnan. Everyone is their own player.”
Adnan Januzaj has already created as many chances for his team-mates as Robin van Persie this season, despite playing nearly 400 minutes less than his Manchester United colleague.
