Vancouver Whitecaps play host to Pumas UNAM at BC Place in the round of 32 of the Leagues Cup on Wednesday. Vanni Sartini’s men head into the midweek clash off the back of a dominant group-stage run and will look to keep the juggernaut rolling.
Vancouver Whitecaps turned in a stunning team display last Sunday when they stormed to a 3-1 victory over Club Tijuana in the Leagues Cup Group G finale.
Before that, Sartini’s men kicked off their cup campaign with a penalty-shootout victory over Los Angeles FC on July 31 after playing out a 2-2 draw with the Black and Gold in normal time.
Vancouver Whitecaps will now look to surpass their Leagues Cup run from last season when they suffered a round-of-32 exit at the hands of Tigres UANL.
Pumas, on the other hand, picked up a dramatic penalty-shootout win over fellow Mexican side Monterrey at the weekend to book their spot in the knockout stages.
This followed a narrow 3-2 defeat against MLS outfit Austin FC when the sides met at the Q2 Stadium in the Group A curtain-raiser on July 27.
Pumas head into Wednesday’s clash unbeaten in seven of their last eight matches in all competitions and will be looking to stun the Whitecaps on their home ground.
