Venezuela take on Mexico in their second group game of the 2024 Copa America at the SoFi Stadium on Wednesday. Both teams had a winning start to their campaign, so another win will ensure their place in the knockouts.
Venezuela beat Ecuador 2-1 in their campaign opener last week. Despite Enner Valencia getting sent off in the 22nd minute, Ecuador drew first blood in the 40th minute through Jeremy Sarmiento. However, Venezuela made the most of their numerical advantage in the second half, with substitutes Jhonder Cádiz and Eduard Bello confirming their three points.
Mexico, meanwhile, got their campaign underway against Jamaica, with a Gerardo Arteaga 69th-minute winner. West Ham United defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez had to be subbed off in the 30th minute due to injury and is out of the tournament.
Luis Romo was called from the bench to replace Alvarez and played a big role, providing the assist for Arteaga's goal. Jamaica had a goal ruled out by VAR, helping the 1993 runners-up's cause.

Venezuela vs Mexico Prediction
Venezuela's 2-1 triumph over Ecuador in their campaign opener was their first win across competitions since October and also the first game where they scored more than one goal. They dominated possession, but that was likely because they played three-quarters of the game with a numerical advantage.
They have failed to score in four of their last six games in Copa America, scoring in two meetings against Ecuador. Jefferson Savarino is expected to start in place of Cristian Cásseres Jr., who was booked in the campaign opener.
Mexico, meanwhile, suffered an early blow in their meeting against Jamaica as captain Alvarez was subbed off with an injury in the 30th minute. Nonetheless, they dominated possession and had nine shots on target but only score once.
They are unbeaten in 13 meetings with Venezuela, scoring at least twice in 10. Nonetheless, considering the current form of the two teams, expect a high-scoring draw.
Prediction: Venezuela 2-2 Mexico
