Blackburn Rovers‘ Indian owners, the Venky’s, are in no mood to sell the club despite watching the team get relegated. Meanwhile, Rovers fans continued their protests against the owners and the manager Steve Kean before, during and after Monday’s home defeat to Wigan that led to Rovers relegation.
But despite all the protests, Venkatesh Rao claims the Indian poultry giants will be at the club for a long time. Rao added that the decision to sack deputy chief executive Paul Hunt was taken as a measure to cut operating costs rather than because of a leaked letter that surfaced in the media earlier this week. Speaking to The Times of India, he said:
“Yes, it is a company of ours and there is nothing whatsoever in (the speculation). These allegations are not correct.
“Hunt’s is not a sacking because of that (the letter). Some staff have to go to bring the budget down, it is nothing to do with the letter.”
The owner added that he fully understands the emotions of the fans but is refusing to give up, adding that promotion to premier league will be the priority for next season.
“We were relegated so naturally they are going to do that. We have to come out of this situation, that’s the most important thing. The fans have the right to do what they want.
“It’s bound to happen when someone loses that somebody criticises. We have to come out of this situation. Nobody is to be blamed.”
