Verdict: Winner or Loser? Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Another season of scintillating footballing action has ended. And what drama! Manchester United were well on their way for another Premier League title and it was a miracle, a hollywood story, but Manchester city were destined to be Champions. We are not going to talk about League Champions and runner ups here. What we want to talk about is how Arsenal,Chelsea and Liverpool have fared this season. So I’m going to give my verdict on a scale of 1 to 10.

Arsenal

Start to the season : It could not have been worse. The departure of Samir Nasri further added to Wenger’s woes. Arsenal were 13th in the table after playing 7 matches and winning just 2 of them. Injury problems, departure of star players, own goals and an 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford. Those were really black days for an Arsenal fan.

Hero of the season : Robin Van Persie. The Flying Dutchman single-handedly led Arsenal to victory in crucial games. Scoring goals was never a problem for Van Persie, injuries were. But he got rid of his Achilles’s heel and showed the world what he can do ever so consistently.

Achievements : Nobody thought that Arsenal would finish above Spurs. Considering the start they had, it’s a massive comeback and a great achievement for Wenger and Arsenal.

Flash in the pan : Empty trophy cabinet again! Although Arsenal showed great character against AC Milan, it wasn’t good enough. Adding to the catastrophe, Sunderland knocked out Arsenal in the FA Cup. So much beautiful football, but nothing to show in the trophy cabinet, eh Wenger!

+8 For CL Qualification and numerous comebacks.

-2 for trophy-less season

+1 for persuading legend Thierry Henry to comeback .Ha!

Final verdict : 7 /10. Winner.

Chelsea

Start to the season: Okay! Everyone was counting on Torres to regain his old form. Jaun Mata adjusted to the Premier League in no time. It was a new side showing a lot of promise.

Hero of the season: Didier Drogba. After AVB got sacked, Chelsea were in disarray. Di Matteo revived the Chelsea of old. And Chelsea’s old hero, Didier Drogba, made the most of the opportunities given to him. Apparently his last season with Chelsea, he scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final and Champions League final. Saying goodbye, Drogba style.

Achievements : FA Cup and Champions League. Sticking with Fernando Torres when he needed a break, playing Obi Mikel and Raul instead of Lampard and many more – all these things led to the sacking of AVB. However, after that, Chelsea showed great attitude, making one of the best comebacks defeating Napoli in the Champions League. If you consider the league standings, Chelsea have been poor, but winning FA Cup and more importantly, Champions League is a dream come true for the London club.

Flash In the Pan: No title challenge. After spending 50M on Torres and then signing Mata,we expected Chelsea to give the Manchester Clubs a run for their money, but how wrong we were!

+2 for Winning Fa Cup

+8 for Winning the Champions League..

-1 for League Standings.

Final Verdict . 9/10. Winner.

Liverpool

Start to the season : A Decent start. Won the second match against Arsenal. New signings Jose Enrique, Charlie Adams and Jordan Henderson were playing some good football and apparently were gelling together quickly. However, injury problems continued for Captain fantastic.

Hero Of the Season – Martin Skrtel. With all due respect to Martin, you know you’ve done badly if your best player is Martin Skrtel. He has scored some crucial goals and has been the standout defender for Liverpool this season.

Achievements: We all know that for a club like Liverpool, winning the Carling Cup was nothing more than a smidgen of glory. But it was sweet nonetheless to win some silverware after 5 long years. Knocking out both Manchester clubs within a week was the high point of the season. Things would have been so different had Liverpool won the FA Cup, but Drogba had other plans.

Flash in the pan : Every single Liverpool player except one or two. So much promise, but ultimately it turned out to be a big fiasco. For a club like Liverpool, Champions League is the top priority but they have failed yet again. You might want to blame Liverpool’s luck in front of the goal or whatever. The bottom line is that they have finished 8th in the table, 4 points behind Everton and that will hurt every Liverpool fan.

+6 for winning Carling Cup and reaching FA cup finals.

-2 for the horrible league form.

Final Verdict : 4/10. Loser
