Washington, Dec 16 (IANS) DaMarcus Beasley, the first American to play in four football World Cups, has expressed his desire to retire from the national team.

Beasley played 14 years for the national team and scored 17 goals in 121 international appearances, reports Xinhua.

In the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he played in all the matches that his country took part.

Beasley began to play for the national team in 2001 and had his finale last month in an exhibition against Colombia in London.

He started his professional career in the Major League Soccer (MLS) with the Chicago Fire in 2000.

Beasley, however, will continue his club career with the MLS club Houston Dynamo.
