Victor Valdes has told Barcelona that he will not renew his contract, according to the player’s representatives.
Valdes, who spent his entire professional career at the Nou Camp, will be out of contract in the summer of 2014.
The statement from agent Gines Carvajal to news agency Efe, on Thrusday, read: “The agents of Victor Valdes have communicated to Barcelona in a meeting held this afternoon the irrevocable decision of the player to not renew his contract.”
The Spain international recently revealed that he would like to test “other cultures, other leagues and other countries” before his playing career comes to an end.
However, he had also indicated at the beginning of January his intention to retire at Barca, an opinion that obviously changed later.
The Catalan clubs sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta was under the impression that Valdes was planning to stay at Camp Nou.
Valdes has been Barcelona’s No 1 all through the last few years, winning a lot of trophies and gaining acceptance with Spain.
