Aberdeen 2 – 1 Manchester United
In Neil Simpson’s testimonial played last night, Sir Alex Ferguson took a mixture of youngsters, first teamers and even ex-players, including Dwight Yorke to his former club in Manchester United’s final pre-season match before the big kick off at Everton next Monday.
Aberdeen took the lead through Jonny Hayes following an uncharacteristic mistake from Manchester United veteran Paul Scholes who was dispossessed on the edge of the box. The Dons made it 2-0 through Joe Shaughnessy with 20 minutes remaining.
With 9 minutes to go Manchester United did pull a goal back as Anderson raced through to a 1-2 with Yorke and produced a cheeky dink over the keeper.
The undoubted highlight of the night for Manchester United was the unexpected return from 9 months out due to illness of Darren Fletcher.
SAF said on his return, “We hope it’s a start for him. We don’t know because we’re all aware he has an issue which he has to deal with, but he’s dealing with it very well at the moment and what we’ve seen tonight is encouraging for us.”
