Arsenal got their season off to a horrendous start as they suffered defeat to Aston Villa at home. Olivier Giroud opened the scoring early on for the home side, but it all went downhill from there for Arsenal as referee Taylor awarded Aston Villa two penalties, allowing Christian Benteke to score a double, and then sent off Laurent Koscielny, following which Villa grabbed a third goal on the break.
