So often a figure of ridicule over recent seasons, it was beginning to seem as though, in some small way, Nicklas Bendtner was slowly overturning his status as the Premier League’s whipping boy when it comes to joke-cracking.
Amid a period that could have, due to a shortage of fit strikers, seriously damaged Arsenal’s season, up stepped the Dane to chip in with two important league goals (which could’ve been three had a header against City not been ruled out for offside.) It even got to the point where Bendtner’s absence was actually bemoaned after he sustained an injury against Cardiff.
Eventually, however, the Denmark international recovers from the ankle injury and the stage is set for the next step in his bid to redeem himself in the hearts and minds of the Arsenal faithful. Especially what with the magic of the FA cup, and all that. Then this happens.
Twice!
We’re not sure what went wrong for the Dane last night, but what we do know, though, is that, had Oxlade-Chamberlain tucked it away, that second one goes down as an assist in our books.
In the Premier League. Bendtner has a shot accuracy of 60%, so when he fancies it, he can be trusted to test the keeper.
